Living things have life cycles (ACSSU072)
  • making and recording observations of living things as they develop through their life cycles
  • describing the stages of life cycles of different living things such as insects, birds, frogs and flowering plants
  • comparing life cycles of animals and plants
Declarative:
Living things can be grouped on the basis of observable features and can be distinguished from non-living things (ACSSU044)
  • recognising characteristics of living things such as growing, moving, sensitivity and reproducing
  • recognising the range of different living things

This task card is designed to be implemented part way through the topic. The class has already been introduced to their class pet, a silk worm and have started growing their own sunflowers. They will be observing the life cycle of the silk worm along with their sun flower first hand. This task card introduces the idea that different life forms have different life cycles and gives students visual demonstrations of various types allowing for discussion.
